Our WILDERNESS EXPEDITIONS aim to explore some of Africa’s true Last Edens and Hidden Gems, often located far from the beaten path, in pristine, wild, and untamed environments. These Expeditions are particularly suitable for experienced travelers, adventure-seekers and – in general – guests interested in the feelings of remoteness, solitude, and untamed wilderness.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS EXPEDITION:

8 days (7 nights) Safari exclusively dedicated to the exploration of Kafue National Park from South to North (or vice-versa), a destination particularly well-known in the entire African continent for its WILD LANDSCAPES and NUMEROUS ENVIRONMENT that are home to a large population of game that GREATLY DIFFER FROM AREA TO AREA. The Southern Plains and Lake Itezhi-tezhi are famous for their extensive Elephants, Cheetahs, Wild Dogs and Lions populations, while the central sector can give visitors the unexpected encounter with rare antelopes and other animals (such as the African Pangolin, Clawless Otters, Honey badgers, etc.). The Northern areas and the Busanga Plains are renown world-wide for their impressive lions’ populations and the possibility to witness Lions’ hunts, social relationships, feeding, mating, etc.

Day 01 :

Livingstone - Kafue National Park – Southern sector / Lake Itezhi tezhi

Kafue National Park, extending for 22,400 km2, is Africa’s second largest National Park and is characterised by many different eco-systems and sceneries. From the southern Nanzhila Plains, to the lake habitat of Itezhi-tezhi, to the fit bush and Miombo forest up to the northern Busanga plains.

During your Safari in the park, you will cross the whole National Park from South to North, camping in some of the most spectacular places and conducting numerous Game Drives in each area.

Our vehicle will pick you up from your accommodation in Livingstone at 06,30 and departure for a 120km transfer on tarmac road to Kalomo. Here, we will take a gravel road for 80km to the Southern Gate of the National Park. (Dumdumwezi). We will then proceed north inside the National Park on a new gravel road until we will reach Lake Itezhi-tezhi. The whole transfer will take approximately 5 hours (depending on road conditions). Set up camp at Shiluwe Camp (or similar) in a fully equipped area with toilets and hot showers. Lunch prepared on arrival by our accompanying chef. Afternoon Game drive and return to camp around sunset. Dinner prepared by our accompanying chef and night camping around the fire.

Day 02 :

Kafue National Park - Lake Itezhi tezhi

Early wake and sunrise breakfast. Sunrise Game Drive in the park and return to camp after approximately 4 hours. Return to camp, relax and lunch. In the afternoon, Game-drive until sunset and dinner by the campfire. Night camping.

Optional: upon request, it is possible to visit a near-by Elephant Sanctuary where orphan elephants are welcomed and protected by volunteers. This Sanctuary is located inside the park, close to our Campsite.

Day 03 :

Kafue National Park - Central Sector & Shishamba River

Wake up at sunrise and breakfast. Break of camp and departure along the Spinal road inside the National Park proceeding north with good opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.

We will reach Kasabushi after approximately 4 hours and set the camp. In the afternoon, we will have a spectacular river safari on the Kafue river which, in this area, is decorated by may rocks and rapids, and hosts a multitude of wildlife and birds. Return to camp before sunset. Dinner prepared by our accompanying chef on the camp fire Night Camping.

Day 04 :

Kafue National Park – central sector & Shishamba river

Early wake and sunrise departure for a full day game drive on the dry bed of the Shishamba River, with excellent chances of spotting feline predators. Pic-nic lunch during the game drive and return to camp before sunset. Dinner around the campfire and night camping.

Day 05 :

Kafue National Park - northern Sector and Busanga plains

Early morning wake and breakfast. Break camp and departure to the northern sector of the park continuing along the Spinal Road with good opportunities of spotting wildlife along the way. We will reach Bongololo Campsite in the late morning and set up our camp for the following three nights in a fully equipped camping area with toilets and hot showers. Lunch is prepared on arrival by our accompanying chef. Afternoon Game drive and return to camp around sunset. Dinner prepared by our accompanying chef and night camping around the fire.

Day 06 :

Kafue National Park - northern sector & Busanga plains

Days entirely dedicated to game-viewing activities in the Kafue National Park: ether 2 Game drives per day (sunrise and afternoon) or a full-day game drive (Busanga Plains accessibility: June 1^st – October 31^st). Evenings will be spent around the campfire and night camping.

Day 08 :

Kafue National Park - Lusaka

Early wake and sunrise breakfast. Break of camp and return transfer to the Hook Bridge, where we will briefly stop for a pic-nic lunch. Continue our transfer to Lusaka where we will reach around late afternoon. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at a location of your choice. End of arrangements.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
